Work Position : Community Coordinator

Work

“During turbulent times it is difficult to argue people into need of sustainability." – besides working for food security and the reduction of malnutrition and teaching French to Creole-speaking youths as fundamental living and communication conditions for an organized community, Mr. Edinx Pierre promotes sustainable measures for reforestation, erosion control and disaster prevention. The knowledge he gained about this matter at Mouvement Paysan Seminary is important to protect affected cultivated land and natural environment as the basic resources for rural people in Hinche.
Mr. Edinx Pierre describes the community he is working with as not organized and developed. His idea of building a community starts with motivating mainly young people to develop their communities by themselves.
At ARI he wants to learn how to build up very basic structures of a rural community and to complement his advanced skills in reforestation, erosion control and disaster prevention with knowledge about integrated and organic farming.

Haiti no Kai is a Japanese NGO which has been assisting poor children in Haiti since 1986.  For 20 years, Sister Hongo, assisted by Haiti no Kai, runs afternoon school for illiterate poor children.  They provide school lunch systems for the rural communities supporting 600 children.  Graduated from ARI training program in 2001, Mr. Exil Deslandes has developed a project community called “Kominote Familyal Peyizan” (Community Family Farm in Creole), in which many family members get together to organize themselves into groups to observe and discuss social and economic situations well and look for ways to improve their living conditions.  They started integrated farming to sustain the families daily food consumption.  After graduating from ARI, Mr. Edinx will be another force to run this project.
