Work |
Mr. Rufus Kamran began his work for the Multan Diocese as a Field Coordinator. He visited farmers in their fields and offered consultancy in integrated farming techniques such as the utilization of beneficial insects. He also served as an intern in the National Rural Support Program for a sugar cane project. Currently he is Youth Coordinator for the same church, doing a survey of local people and encouraging youth to organize groups to help them develop their own potential to solve problems. According to Mr. Kamran “Theoretical knowledge gives you an idea but manual work gives you a sense.” He wants to use his ARI time for field and production observation. Pakistan has abundant resources but the people are not aware of them. He is eager to show them how to become independent and self sufficient through the imaginative use of these resources. After his training Mr. Kamran plans to rejuvenate an agriculture extension program in the Multan Diocese and expand the target area by establishing community-based organizations in all villages of the Diocese.

Sending Organization |
Church of Pakistan The Multan Diocese is one of eight Dioceses of the Church of Pakistan. Due to its remote area rural development is given the highest priority. Programs for agriculture, adult education, and income generation aim to create a greater level of economic self-sufficiency. One example is SPEP, the Sugarcane Productivity Enhancement Project which Mr. Rufus Kamran has been deeply involved in. The project provides farmers with small amounts of credit according to their needs. The goal is to enhance productivity of sugar cane through this loan program, give agricultural advice to small-scale farmers, and to persuade farmers to combine livestock with their farming practices. |
