As Associate Training Coordinator at PROSHIKA, Mr. Biswajit Kumar Sarker organizes and conducts a variety different kinds of training projects.  He identifies people’s needs and areas where technical support is required, coordinates training on natural resource management for his community, and designs agricultural plots that demonstrate different organic farming practices.  At ARI, he would like to learn more about organic farming and soil fertility.  He also wants to learn poultry management, as the farmers he works with practice poultry rearing as an integral part of farming.  He wants to become a good trainer on natural resource management.  After ARI, he will first pass on what he has learned to other staff members and then lead farmers directly for the better management of natural resources through organic farming methods.

Proshika - A Centre for Human Development

PROSHIKA - a center for human development, in Bangladesh, works toward poverty alleviation, environmental protection and regeneration, improvement in women's status, and income and employment generation. This broad based organization impacts 1.9 million households and 10.4 million people annually. Its services are critical in this country where almost half of the 123 million people live in poverty, where there is the highest rate of malnutrition in South Asia, and where the adult literacy rate is one of the lowest in the world. They have a broad spectrum of programs including health infrastructure improvements (installation of sewers, latrines, and wells), construction of houses for the poor, promotion of universal education, women's empowerment, and credit assistance.
