As a priest, Fr. Domitien Kabura believes you have to help your people not only on questions of faith but also of life development. Therefore, together with his youth group he designs income generating projects, implements programs against drug abuse, provides awareness of HIV/AIDS, and helps children whose parents have died of AIDS. Living side by side with people who live from hand to mouth, Fr. Kabura’s main goal is to ensure food security through sustainable agriculture. In the parish garden he began cultivating crops and vegetables. He also started a piggery in order to give young seminarians the chance for practical experience in providing food for the body as well as the soul. He regularly provides consultation to the Caritas Development Office on ways to make local agriculture more sustainable. Since soil fertility and good crop yields are important for the long term health of the community he wishes to learn about alternative methods to increase yield and at the same time protect the environment. He is also eager to get new ideas about leadership and how to motivate and empower the people to take charge of their lives.

Sending Organization |
Catholic Archdiocese of Tabora The Archdioceses of Tanzania are closely connected both in organization and action with Caritas Tanzania. Together they share knowledge and experiences about people’s needs, design and execute plans for enhancement programs, and raise funds. Each program is designed for the special needs in each diocese. The Archdiocese of Tabora lays highest stress on water & sanitation, poverty reduction and social reform, disaster management and rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS awareness training to church leaders, food security and nutrition, and capacity building in communities. Among others the promotion of bee keeping and vocational training are particular examples how the Archdiocese of Tabora and Caritas try to create income generating measures and decrease poverty and promote independence. |
