Work

Ms. Theodora Tatah Tirbaban has been working as a nurse and midwife for more than 15 years in hilly district of Bantan. She chose this profession because she wanted to provide quality health care and health education to the rural communities, which typically lack proper facilities and personnel. Her work centers on nutrition, women's health, and HIV/AIDS awareness. As she treated her people, she discovered that the root of many health problems were due to lack of proper nutrition. This led her to focus more attention on educating the community on nutrition as well as improving their methods of agriculture. Having grown up and worked on a farm most of her life, she felt this was a natural path for her to follow. She has enrolled in ARI training to learn new skills and techniques, especially in organic farming, that she will be able to pass on to her people.

Navti Foundation

Serving the rural communities of the Kumbo and Bui Divisions of Cameroon, the Navti Foundation acts as a pivot center for rural development within the region to help local people be more self-reliant. They conduct women's health programs and are currently working with more than 30 women's health groups, including Christian and Muslim groups, training them in small income generation projects such as dress making, soap making, and vegetable gardening. They have also initiated children's health programs which set up nursery schools and provide scholarships for orphans. Additionally, they created a health care group to provide primary health care and HIV/AIDS awareness. Recently the Navti Foundation acquired 10 acres of land to be used as a demonstration farm for rearing poultry, sheep, and goats and as well as for organic vegetable and crop production. Their motto is"We build our communities ourselves."
