Work |
As a Project Coordinator in rural Cameroon, Mrs. Berinyuy is responsible for raising maize, beans, potatoes, and poultry on the Navti Foundation demonstration farm. Additionally, she organizes women’s groups for seminars, training workshops and micro-finance schemes where she helps women learn how to better provide for themselves and their families in terms of nutrition, health, and income. She also handles project analysis and wrinting. Her work is especially important in a society that considers women as secondary citizens, where girls do not go to school in order to help out at home, and widows have no right to inherit land. Mrs. Berinyuy also has experience working in a credit union, which gave her valuable skills that she can use in her work at Navti Foundation. She hopes to further her learning about managing a credit union at the Asian Rural Institute. Mrs. Berinyuy is also part of the Navti Foundation’s new project to develop land outside of their village into a demonstration organic center. At the center they hope to have a garden for vegetables and spices as well as livestock, such as goats, sheep and poultry.

Sending Organization |
Serving the rural communities of the Kumbo and Bui Divisions of Cameroon, the Navti Foundation acts as a pivot center for rural development within the region to help local people become more self-reliant. They conduct women's health programs and are currently working with more than 30 women's health groups, including Christian and Muslim groups, training them in small income generation projects such as dress making, soap making, and vegetable gardening. The Navti Foundation has also initiated children's health programs which set up nursery schools and provides scholarships for orphans. Additionally, they created a health care group to provide primary health care and HIV/AIDS awareness. Recently the Navti Foundation acquired 10 acres of land to be used as a demonstration farm for rearing poultry, sheep, and goats as well as for organic vegetable and crop production. Their motto is, "We build our communities ourselves. See opportunities where others see obstacles! "
