Work
Mr. Kisimbiri is a field extension officer for FAITH Kenya. He has been a farmer throughout his life and maintains a model farm to support his family as well as to provide opportunities for observation and learning for his local community. Mr. Kisimbiri’s work includes training farmers in basic agricultural practices, assisting farmers to set up demonstration farms, and monitoring farmers’ activities. “The biggest challenge I see is that my community lacks capital and education to invest in day to day farming to produce enough food to take them around the year.” Mr. Kisimbiri is currently working on targeting the young people for his training – hoping to harness their energy and enthusiasm for the good of the family and community. He believes that once trained with good farming techniques, they will come to understand that they can make a decent living in their villages and will not rush to the cities to find jobs. At ARI, Mr. Kisimbiri wishes to learn more about forestry, horticulture, and marketing. “My future plan is to engage my community in short-term farming using modern methods, enabling them to produce for domestic and commercial use. This will raise enough funds to meet the challenges of day to day living which requires money.” |
