Announcement of the Passing of the Rev. Dr. Toshihiro Takami, Honorary President

Glory be to God in the Highest! It is with great sadness that we bring this announcement.  The Rev. Dr. Toshihiro Takami, Honorary President of the Asian Rural Institute (Nasushiobara, Tochigi, Japan) passed away at the Maronie Nursing Care Facility at 10:18pm on Thursday, September 6th.  He was 91 years old.  His was a life sacrificed for the Lord and for the Asian Rural Institute. The Rev. Dr. Toshihiro Takami was born in the Northeast Part of the Chinese People’s Republic, formerly known as Manchuria, and returned to Japan at the age of 10.  He attended College at Doane University, Seminary at Yale Divinity School and Fuller Seminary. (日本語) EARTH HEART 世界の農村指導者と作る平和のアート

絵筆を握れば誰でもアーティスト!手ぶらで参加できる絵画ワークショップ開催  この秋、アジア学院では、アメリカからゲスト講師を迎え、アジア学院と市民の交流を兼ねた絵画ワークショップを実施します。アジア学院キャンパスや、地元の学校、自治会公民館など8ヶ所を会場にして、全14回開催予定です。  このプロジェクトは、2017年夏、大学生インターンとして2ヶ月間アジア学院に滞在した若きアメリカ人芸術家アイリス・バーバンク(セントオラフ大学2018年5月卒)の発案により発足したプロジェクトで、アジア学院の全面的なバックアップにより実施いたします。  この事業は栃木県文化振興基金の助成を受けているため、絵の具(主にアクリル絵の具を使用)やキャンバスなどの画材はすべてこちらでご用意します。参加者は手ぶらで、しかも無料で、本格的な絵画制作を体験できます。それぞれ一人1点、平和への願いを込めて「家族」や「地域」、「自然」や「いのち」などそれぞれのテーマで作品を作ってください。  プロジェクトのフィナーレとして、アジア学院の学生や県民の皆様が制作した作品群をアジア学院キャンパス(収穫感謝の日 10/13 – 10/14)や栃木県内の公共施設・商業施設などに展示し巡回展を行います。会場には、制作風景を撮影した映像なども展示する予定です。  アジア学院との交流とアート制作を通して、平和、環境、社会貢献への関心を高めてもらうことが目的のこのプロジェクト。多くの方にご参加いただけることを願っています。

ARI Nickname: Lar Myanmer Shweli Shan Baptist Convention, SSBC Project Directer / Pastor “I remember one of my childhood experiences in family table. When I eat the food sometimes the food fell down the table. My father always reminds that the farmers plant the paddy field and it is not easy to get even a seed of rice.” Lar comes from a community in the northern reaches of Shan State. The community is very diverse, consisting of many cultures, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. ARI Nickname: Mambud Sierra Leone Single Leg Amputee Sports Association Program Coordinator / Pastor “Football acts as a channel through which friendships are built and further identifies and addresses the social needs that affect our members. The amputees can feel part of something where we are equal to others.” In addition to being a pastor, Mambud has been the program coordinator for The Single Leg Amputee Sports Association, or SLASA, for the last 16 years. As a program coordinator, he serves as a liaison between SLASA and its partners/donors. ARI Nickname: Veh Malawi Maziko Radio Station Radio presenter / Program producer “We target the poor and the stigmatized because we feel everybody can live a better life and anything is possible. These people are the ones that can change a society because they act like as an example to those who are low and feel they cannot manage.” Venitta works as both a farm supervisor and a host/producer for the Maziko Radio Station.
