Leadership Through Service

The purpose of this page is to provide information to organizations who may be in need of developing their human resources, specifically those of their field staff. It describes the purposes and content of the ARI training program, what kinds of organizations ARI is trying to serve, what kinds of people those organizations should encourage to apply, and the application process.

Each person who wants to apply must have a "sending body", an organisation or church body the applicant works with for rural development. Only a sending body can recommend a person for the ARI training program and request an application form. Application forms will not be send to individuals. ARI will accept only applications on original application forms, photocopies will not be considered in the application process. The person recommended by the sending body must have a definite sense of the purpose, concrete experience and a clear awareness of the needs of his/her people.

As well the sending body as also the applicant should be well aware of our training program's goals:

- Basic knowledge and skill

  • To protect the environment
  • To reduce dependence on outside resources
  • To acquire food self-sufficiency

- A servant leader

  • We train persons who serve in a way that empowers others to engage in self-transformation

- Personal growth

  • Widening perspective on global issues through cross cultural exchange
  • Fostering understanding of the interdependence of all life and the need for cooperation
  • The dignity of manual labour

  • 2. Please describe in detail the community that you are serving for.
    * Where exactly does your organization operate? Are you working with tribal/indigenous people or marginalized groups? Which ethnic groups are living in your place?

  • 3. Please describe in detail the ongoing activities of your organization.
    * Please send us any printed materials describing your organization’s nature and work, such as annual reports, brochures, and project reports. What are your organization's sources of funding? Are you related to any religious institution?

  • 4. Please describe the complete history of your organization's work.
    * What do you think is the most successful work your organization has accomplished so far? What is the biggest difficulty you face?

  • 5. Who do you want to send to ARI?
    * Please give ARI the name, position and work activities of the person you plan to send to ARI. Why do you think that person is suitable for our Rural Leaders’ Training?

  • 6. What is your organization’s future goal?
    * How would your organization utilize the training of the person you recommend? How do you think this kind of training is useful for your work?

ARI encourages organizations interested in its style of leadership training to plan now for the years ahead. Plan who to send to ARI and plan how you can provide your portion of the funds that are needed.
