Sending material donations

ARI welcomes donations of materials and equipment. These donations often help us save money or provide us with important items that we would not otherwise be able to afford on our shoestring budget. However, we want to be sure that your donation will be able to be put to full use. Items that turn out to be broken or which ARI cannot use must be discarded by ARI which usually requires great effort and expense.

 

Before you bring or send anything to ARI we ask two things:

• Please consider carefully about the item you wish to send. Is it still good condition? In good working order? Generally clean? Is there still a good amount of life left in the item?
• Please contact us by phone or by email ahead of time to be sure that we can make use of your donation

At present, we need the following materials for administrative and educational purposes:

 

General:
light trucks, four wheel drive small trucks (automatic), corn-harvesters, tractors, bicycles, motor bicycles, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, oil fan heaters, double-deck beds, coffee, green and black tea and sugar.
Computer-related devices:
Windows PCs (CPU over 90MHz, Memory bigger than 16 MB, HDD bigger than 500 MB), printers, display monitors and any other devices.
Misused postcards and used telephone cards (Japanese):
ARISA collects postcards bearing New Year's greetings, changes them for new ones, and sells them to public organizations. The proceeds are used for scholarships.

We are also collecting...
Unused stamps, revenue stamps, postal cards, prepaid postcards, aerograms, gift certificates, book tickets, unchanged public lottery tickets, etc. (things which are issued in Japan only.)

Financial aid
Both Asian Rural Institute Supporters' Association (ARISA) and ARI secretariat accept and distribute financial aid. You can send your gift in the following ways;

 

Gifts can also be sent directly to ARI by Postal Money Order (furikomi).  ARI has tokutei koueki houjin status making donations within Japan tax deductible.  Please use the address above.

Remittance (optional donation) to ARI secretariat
ARI secretariat receives optional donations as general/ designated donation to Institute. In that case, a tax deduction measure (in Japan) is applied to the donation of more than 10,000 yen.
